A closer look at exactly what’s on offer at TIA Wellness Resort in Da Nang, Vietnam

Da Nang has long topped our holiday lists. So much so that it was the first holiday this Team Sassy member booked post-pandemic! After an affordable, two-hour direct flight you can be sitting beachside, relaxing with a cocktail in hand or exploring the lantern-lined lanes of historic Hoi An. Not to mention munching on the fresh fragrant flavours Vietnamese cuisine is famous for.

TIA Wellness Resort

Just a short drive from Da Nang International Airport, we arrive at TIA Wellness Resort and are immediately struck by the boutique look and feel of the all-villa property. The lobby and main restaurant have a chic, modern Vietnamese design that flows through the picturesque gardens leading to the beachside infinity pool.

Despite its photogenic position by the sand, the pool is surprisingly quiet thanks to each villa having a private pool (more on that later!). We took full advantage, diving straight in! Likewise, we were able to lap it up, relaxing in the crystal clear waters of the South China Sea.

Breathwork, Yoga And Wellness Activities At TIA Wellness Resort

A unique concept, TIA Wellness Resort offers complimentary wellness classes for all guests. It offers daily breathwork, Tai Chi, yoga and creative workshops.

Hosted in a bright and airy studio within the spa sanctuary, the breathwork class was held to the meditative sounds of the waterfall, palm trees moving in the breeze and the melodic hum of the cicadas and birds. As we were all beginners, the instructor guided us through the basics, easing us into relaxation for the day ahead.

The session I was most curious about, if not a little sceptical about (if I’m being honest) was the creative workshop. Colouring with my kids aside, neither my husband nor I are the most artistic people. We went in with an open mind (and perhaps a few jokes about our creative capabilities). The workshop was surprisingly relaxing, as we were guided through colour choices to match our feelings and given a variety of mediums to work with.

No, I will not be showing you my masterpiece. But, in a turn that could only be described as fate, the session concluded with my husband and I revealing our very, VERY similar works of art. I’m going to assume it’s because we are soulmates so in tune with each other’s feelings rather than the sheer coincidence of a shared beachside view out the window (we both created ocean waves and sunsets in case you were wondering!).

Included Spa Treatments At TIA Wellness Resort

We couldn’t visit an all-inclusive resort without sampling the spa menu. Every guest has access to up to two spa treatments (to a maximum of 80 minutes) every day from a treatment menu with a variety of both 50-minute and 30-minute options.

Our session started with a private visit to the new and modern spa facilities. There are DIY scrubs to choose from, one of the most hypnotic steam rooms I’ve ever seen (the colour-changing lights on the ceiling were a lovely touch), a sauna overlooking the lush tropical garden, plus a shower room with a rain shower, Vichy shower bed and massage jets. Our 30 minutes was up all too quickly but set us up well for our treatments ahead.

We were led through to our couples’ room full of natural light. We both chose a 50-minute body massage (Himalayan salt stone for me and deep-tissue sports massage for him), followed by a 30-minute head and shoulder massage. Our experienced therapists knew exactly what they were doing and there’s a good chance one of us may have nodded off.

Wellness Cuisine

A huge part of visiting Vietnam is the food. Personally, I’d start every day with a cà phê sữa dá (Vietnamese iced coffee) if I could! As a health and wellness resort, I was curious to see the menu offerings. TIA Wellness Resort caters for all diets, from those on a full cleanse to those looking to indulge.

I was struck by the diversity of what was on offer at the breakfast buffet. There were vegan options and healthy wellness options (fresh spring rolls, chia puddings, protein balls and more) for those keeping it light. On the flip side, the traditional holiday treats — eggs, bacon, croissants and pastries were also available. Plus an al a carte option and made-to-order Vietnamese and barista coffees. Everything was delicious!

We also sampled the vegan lunch options at The Ocean Bistro. The poolside restaurant had a breezy, coastal feel to it and dished up innovative plant-based plates.

Private Pool Villas At TIA Wellness Resort

While we didn’t spend the night at TIA, we were treated to a sneak peek at its stunning private pool villas. No wonder the beachside pool was quiet — the villas are your own little sanctuary! With sleek and spacious interiors coupled with your own plunge pool, there’s little reason to leave. Well, except for those spa and wellness treatments!

Plus, if you miss the breakfast buffet you can order from the in-room dining menu at any time or snack from the included wellness-inspired mini bar.

Final thoughts on TIA Wellness Resort, Da Nang

Having visited Da Nang (and Vietnam in general) many times over the last decade or so I can safely say this is a property I’ll be coming back to. I particularly love that it caters for all wellness interests and mixed abilities. If you are someone looking to dive into cleanses, detox and daily yoga there are programmes available. At the same time if your travel companion is more interested in cocktails by the pool and a good massage they won’t be disappointed either.

I may already be planning a solo retreat for my next long weekend!

Hop on a ferry or bus to Macau where palatial hotel resorts, exuberant casinos, local delicacies and exhilarating shows await!

Whether you’re visiting Macau for the first time or have been waiting three years to revisit our neighbouring SAR, we’re glad to bring your our updated guide to where to eat and stay in Macau. From newly opened resorts, local delicacies, historical sites and exciting attractions, here are all the best things to see and do while you’re there.

Macau (or Macao) is a no-brainer pick when it comes to a short and easy getaway. It’s similar to Hong Kong in the sense that it is also a Special Administrative Region, meaning it has its own currency, administration and legal system to the rest of China. Like Hong Kong, Cantonese is widely spoken there and Hong Kong Dollars is also widely used and accepted, which approximately converts 1:1 Macanese Pataca (MOP).

Editor’s Note: Stay tuned for more updated Macau content from us as we reacquaint ourselves with the region.

Macau Guide, Macao Travel Tips: Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Bus To Macau

Getting To Macau

Getting to Macau has never been easier. Not only can we go by ferry, but since the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge opened back in 2018, we can also go by bus, which operates 24/7.

How To Get From Hong Kong To Macau By Ferry

Most people know about the ferry from Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan, but you can also get the ferry from the Kowloon China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong International Airport’s SkyPier. There are two ferry operators to choose from:

How To Get From Hong Kong To Macau By Bus

If you get seasick easily, a good alternative is to travel to Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB). Those choosing to stay on land can either take public transport to the Hong Kong Port (more details here), then catch a shuttle bus to Macau Port. From there you can take public transport to your final destination. Alternatively, you can take a cross-boundary coach or hire a cross-boundary car (see the list of cross-boundary hire car operators here) to take you directly from Hong Kong to Macau.

There are also a number of bus services that can get you straight to your hotel in Macau:

  • One Bus – Starting from Jordan, the route passes through Sands Macao, Venetian Macao and Parisian Macao. www.onebus.hk
  • Hong Kong Shared Bus Transfers – Direct busses from Hong Kong with drop-off points at Venetian Macao, Galaxy Macau, MGM Cotai, Grand Lisboa Macau and more. www.klook.com

Sassy Tip: Those driving in a private car to the Hong Kong Port can book a parking spot here and enjoy 30-minute complimentary parking within any 3-hour period.

Where To Stay In Macau

Macau is made up of one peninsula and two islands, however, the area between the two islands, Taipa and Coloane, created an additional area known as Cotai. As such, when we speak of Macau, we refer to four main districts, namely Macau Peninsula, Taipa, Cotai and Coloane. Most attractions, sites and casinos are located in the first three districts. Coloane, however, offers a more cultural experience of Macau. Colonial buildings running along the sides of the cobblestone streets of this coastal village give visitors a glimpse of the city’s Portuguese past.

Macau Guide, Macao Travel Tips: The Londoner

The Londoner Macao

The Londoner Macao encompasses two new all-suite hotels – The Londoner Hotel and Londoner Court – alongside Sheraton Grand Macao, St. Regis Macao and Conrad Macao. With a grandiose façade, complete with a life-sized Big Ben, a red double-decker bus (flown in from the UK!) and phone booths for picture taking, it’s worth passing by in the least for the ‘Gram.

Sassy Tip: Be sure to catch the light and sound spectacular, where the building’s outer façade comes to life with dazzling lighting effects choreographed to classic British-themed musical scores, running hourly from 7:30pm to 11:30pm.

Macau Guide, Macao Travel Tips: Rua do Cunha

Street Food Along Rua do Cunha (官也街)

From Portuguese egg tarts to beef offal, Rua do Cunha has it all. Be mentally prepared for a dense crowd, but don’t let this put you off as the queues tend to move quickly since there are often several vendors selling these local delicacies. Our advice is to not jump into the first queue you see. Do a quick scope of the area – you might be surprised by what you’ll find further down the street. Also, remember that you didn’t come all the way to shop at boutiques you can find in Hong Kong. Pastelaria Fong Kei is a local favourite. This century-old pastry shop can only be found in Cotai so make sure to get there early before some of their best sellers get sold out for the day.

The best thing about this is that you can ask for refills free of charge.

For an evening option that provides a coastal contrast to the glamour of modern Cotai, head over to Fernando’s, an authentic Portuguese restaurant located at the southern tip of Hác Sa beach in Coloane. This charming eatery serves a variety of seafood and other Portuguese staples with a plentiful wine range to pair. Accompanying the dishes is a convivial, rustic atmosphere, ideal for a stroll along the sand before or after your meal.

Sassy Tip: If you don’t manage to make a reservation in advance, we recommend arriving early and putting your name down on the waiting list before popping yourself down in their courtyard for a drink or two whilst you wait for your table.

Macau Guide, Travel Tips: Ruins of St. Pauls

What To Do In Macau

Despite being known as the “Las Vegas of Asia”, there is so much more to Macau than just casinos. Having been a Portuguese colony for almost 600 years up until 1999, Macau’s identity is deeply rooted in its Cantonese culture but also heavily influenced by Western Europe. This is particularly evident in the colonial buildings scattered around Macau and the fact that Portuguese is a co-official language there.

If this is your first time visiting Macau, a good place to start would be Senado Square, a popular shopping and dining area that is also part of the UNESCO Historic Centre of Macau World Heritage Site. On the way to the Ruins of St. Paul’s, you’ll walk past St. Dominic’s Church, where royal weddings took place back in the day. Once you reach the ruins, make sure to go up those stairs to see a display of how the church used to look, and admire the view from a higher vantage point before you make your way back down.

Macau Guide, Travel Tips: Calcada do Aparo

Don’t get sucked into the souvenir shops just yet. Make a right turn at the bottom of the hill and pass by Travessa da Paixāo for a romantic pitstop. With colourful houses lining both sides of the street, this is a popular photo spot. You might also want to check out Calçada do Amparo (大關斜巷), a colourful alleyway just off Rue de São Paulo. This creative walkway will lead you down to Rua dos Ervanários, a street offering a glimpse of old Macau with a growing number of hipster coffee shops.

Macau is the perfect place for adrenaline junkies. From zip lines to bungee jumping, there’s something for everyone. If you prefer quieter activities, make your way to The Venetian, where the popular Japanese immersive art space teamLab SuperNature resides or enjoy the spectacle of The House of Dancing Water, an impressive production with an international reputation.

After the rollercoaster ride that was 2022, who would say no to a stay at The Farm at San Benito?

Imagining a weekend of relaxing by the pool, maybe a yoga class and massage in a lovely resort in the Philippines, I was quick to say yes to a quick trip to The Farm at San Benito. A bit of time out to set the tone for the new year ahead. Without wanting to sound too dramatic about it, The Farm at San Benito was so much more…

I love a spot of yoga and will never say no to a good spa treatment. However, when it comes to crystals and chakras, juice detoxes and vegan living, I’m a bit more sceptical. But I’ll try anything once! The beauty of a stay at The Farm at San Benito is there is something for everyone’s interpretation of wellness. There are options for those seeking a complete lifestyle overhaul and those who want a simple holiday retreat with healthy food, relaxation and mindfulness and fitness.

Tested Treatments At The Holistic Sanctuary

My treatments started with the Live Blood Analysis which involved a finger prick blood droplet being examined under a microscope. While not diagnostic, it was interesting to see the blood cells interact giving insight and direction to other health conversations.

This was followed by a Voice Analysis where I spoke into a microphone for around a minute, followed by the doctor’s interpretation of my personality, mental and physical health. I still have no idea how it works, but the results were scarily accurate and some of the personality traits (both positive and negative) definitely struck close to home. Like the Blood Analysis, the results help form a broader picture of your health and areas for improvement.

Finally, I spent some time in the Vital Dome infra-red sauna. A strange experience as you lie down, in a dimly lit room with peaceful music playing, covered by the dome with just your head out. On the “detox” setting, the heat went up to 65º C, sending my heart racing and letting my body sweat out the toxins. I’m still trying to decide whether it felt like a relaxing meditation or an intense workout. Yes, very conflicting concepts, but I would absolutely do it again

Healing Sanctuary Spa And Aqua Sanctuary

No retreat would be complete without a visit (or two or three!) to the spa and the Healing Sanctuary and Aqua Sanctuary did not disappoint. I tried the signature Purification Treatment which was a simply divine combination body scrub and massage.

Next up was Aqua Therapy, a two-hour onsen-like experience. The time was spent being guided from the saunas and steam rooms through different water jets and onsen pools, before finishing up with an infrared foot sauna and shoulder massage. It was relaxing and meditative and something I’d highly recommend.

Restaurants At The Farm at San Benito

Everyone knows that a key to good health is eating well. ALIVE! serves up delicious vegan meals (and if you are doing a cleanse this is where all your meals will likely be). I also really enjoyed the meals at PRANA, the Indian-inspired vegetarian restaurant and also PESCE which, as the name suggests, serves up seafood by the pool.

banaba delux the farm san benito philippines

Accommodation At The Farm at San Benito

There is a range of rooms, suites and villas to suit your style. My room was a Banaba Deluxe in the newest section of the resort. It was lovely and comfortable and I really enjoyed waking up to the sounds and views of the forest. It is near a new section of the resort that is being constructed (with exciting things to come!) and a bit of a walk to the main areas so if I were to stay again I’d look into the villas which enjoy a private garden and some with their own pools.
