The options are truly endless, from the variety of tea to the level of sweetness and sinkers to add, and we know everyone has their own preference when it come to the perfect bubble tea. Best Bubble Tea Shops Hong Kong: HEYTEA

HEYTEA

This popular Chinese tea drink chain, which originated in Guangdong, brought to fame the divisive cheese-in-tea trend. We personally stan the controversial combo and have yet to come across a brand that does it better than HEYTEA. Thankfully, the queue has calmed down substantially since the franchise first landed in Hong Kong, so you won’t have to wait hours to get your order.

Sassy Pick: King Fone Cheezo Tea ($32) – roasty oolong tea topped with HEYTEA’s signature cheese foam.

HEYTEA, Shop B216, B/F, Times Square, 1 Matheson Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, 3106 2996www.facebook.com/HEYTEAHKMACAU

The Alley

An Insta-famous Taiwan-based bubble tea spot in Tsim Sha Tsui, The Alley has amassed an immense following, with dedicated patrons who would gladly cross the harbour for its tea. The all-natural housemade sugar cane syrup adds a subtle sweetness to the drinks but what people keep coming back for are the trademark “Deerioca” tapioca pearls.

Sassy Pick: Brown Sugar Deerioca Crème Brûlée ($36) – a truly indulgent treat for those with a sweet tooth.

The Alley, Shop F, G/F, Alpha House, 27-33 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, www.the-alley.hk

Best Bubble Tea Shops Hong Kong: Potion House

POT•ION HOUSE

There’s a new Taiwanese bubble tea shop on the block by the name of POT•ION HOUSE! You’ll find the usual suspects like brown sugar boba milk and cream cheese topped teas, but if you’re looking to try something a little different, the store’s specialty lies in “cha dong” (think jellied milk, tea and coffee) which make a fun alternative to tapioca pearls.

Sassy Pick: Vintage Black Tea with Soybean Milk Jelly – an interesting twist on milk tea with creamy jellied milk.

POT•ION HOUSE, G/F, 20 Tai Wong Street East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, 2468 8722www.instagram.com/pot.ionhouse

Milksha

Conversely, this drink franchise is all about the milk. Known as Milkshop in Taiwan and Milksha everywhere else in the world, the drinks here stand out for it’s top-quality fresh milk. Following with the white theme, the brand is also beloved for its colouring-free, honey-soaked White Pearls.

Sassy Pick: Bubble Earl Grey Milk Tea ($28) – creamy Earl Grey milk tea with chewy Honey Pearls. The Fresh Taro Milk is also a crowd favourite, which uses a special taro imported from Taiwan’s Dajia district.

Milksha, various locations across Hong Kong, www.facebook.com/milkshahk

Best Bubble Tea Shops Hong Kong: Mother Pearl

Mother Pearl

Let’s face it, bubble tea is basically dessert in a cup. But this local sustainable vegan pearl tea shop makes the guilty pleasure a little less naughty. All the ingredients used at Mother Pearl are made from scratch, including its plant-based “mylk”, superfood tapioca pearls, and alternative sweeteners. We also love that the brand uses biodegradable straws and takeaway cups.

Sassy Pick: Yuen Yeung 2.0 ($38) – milk tea with an extra kick of caffeine featuring organic coffee froth and tea jelly.

Mother Pearl, various locations across Hong Kong, motherpearl.world

Silk.

Hand-shaken not stirred. Silk. brings together the tradition of Hong Kong-style silk stocking milk tea and Taiwanese hand-shaken beverages. Made with a rich black tea from Sri Lanka, evaporated milk from Hong Kong, the velvety drinks in the “Smooth as Silk” series certainly live up to their name. Want to bring your pup along for a boba date? Silk. offers free “Puppiocas” to all it customers!

Tiger Sugar

This famous bubble tea brand is synonymous with brown sugar boba drinks. In fact, it gets its name from the streaks of syrup that the pearls leave down sides of the cup. After taking that obligatory pic for the ‘Gram, give your drink a good shake to get all that delicious toffee-like syrup to mix in with the milk and enjoy!

Sassy Perk: Black Sugar Boba Milk ($30) – The quintessential brown sugar boba in fresh milk

Tiger Sugar, various locations in Hong Kong, hongkong-macau.tigersugar.com

Best Bubble Tea Shops Hong Kong: Cupfy

Cupfy

Founded by Hong Kong local Amy Ip, here’s another homegrown tea shop that prides itself on being a healthier alternative and environmentally-friendly. The name Cupfy is a play on “cup-free”, so expect your drink to be served in a glass (otherwise it’s encouraged that you bring your own to-go cup to have your drink to-go). One more thing to note is the brand’s slogan, “less sugar, more sweetness”, meaning the drinks here are only slightly sweetened with raw cane sugar or sugar-free maltitol.

Sassy Pick: Cupfy Milk Tea ($27) – go for the classic milk tea or try one of the more creative flavours like the Oreo and Salted Butter Milk Tea ($38).

Cupfy (Hysan Place), Eslite, Shop L903A, 9/F, Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, 3419 6729

Chun Shui Tang

If you’re one to judge a milk tea by the flavour and richness of the tea, then it would be worth trying out the hand-shaken concoctions at Chun Shui Tang. The brand was founded back in 1983 and is the self-proclaimed pioneer of Taiwanese bubble tea. We like that the brand uses crushed ice which keeps the tea extra cold, making it a great drink to grab on a hot day.

Sassy Pick: Pearl Tieguanyin Milk Tea ($34) – a rich and roasty milk tea with mini pearls

Chun Shui Tang, various locations across Hong Kong, www.facebook.com/chunshuitanghk

Best Bubble Tea Shops Hong Kong: COMEBUYTEA

COMEBUYTEA

With tea leaf grinders fitted onto the walls and TEAPRESSO Machines working their magic, you can tell by the shop’s setup that this brand means business when it comes to tea brewing. The drinks are made using a five-step process, sans artificial flavours or colouring (plus they’re nut-free and gluten-free too!).

Sassy Pick: Roasted Oolong Milk Tea with Taro & Yam Bubbles ($36) – we love the QQ taro and yam bubbles

We get our burger cravings satisfied at Power Burger’s newest Central location.

Since quietly opening its first post in Sham Shui Po at the end of 2021, Power Burger found success serving its own formidable take on the humble burger. It’s one thing to enter the ring of established burger joints in the city (during the pandemic no less), and another feat to stay in it. But with a passion for high quality ingredients, it’s managed to hold its own, now with a takeaway shop in Sai Ying Pun, on the corner of Water Street and Third Street, and its second location in Central.

We ducked out of the office to visit the Central location for lunch and ate our fill of burgers, fries and milkshakes. Read on to find out what we thought!

Power Burger Central Restaurant Review: Location, Aberdeen Street

Comfy Cool Spot In Central

Seek out the bright orange light box up Aberdeen Street to find Power Burger’s Central location. It’s a bit of a climb up the hill, but you’ll want to work up an appetite. Despite being a literal hole-in-the-wall, Power Burger makes great use of its space, fitting in a good amount of seating without it feeling crammed.

Fitted with sleek wooden furniture with black metal accents, leather lounge chairs, skateboards hung up on the wall, potted plants filling up corners and a cute nine-layer burger made entirely of tufted yarn by the entrance, the venue is equal parts cool and cosy.

Power Burger Central Restaurant Review: Food, The Chicken Smash

Love In Each Layer

Ok, let’s talk burgers. We went for The Ultimate Smash and The Chicken Smash. Our burgers quickly arrived at our table and we couldn’t wait to dig in. First to draw our eye was the glossy sheen on the buns, second were the fresh-looking greens (no limp lettuce here!), and third, the sheer size of our burgers. The latter shouldn’t have been a surprise knowing The Ultimate Smash comprised four 2oz Angus beef patties and three slices of American cheese and that The Chicken Smash piled two natural chicken patties and a layer of cheese.

A burger of this caliber deserves to be broken down in layers. Starting with those beautiful milk buns, which were soft and plump. Then the often unappreciated green, which in this case played a commendable supporting role. They use fresh local organic vegetables, specifically kale (which we must mention was not bitter and surprisingly tender) and lettuce, which brought a crisp freshness to each bite and were strategically placed to keep the toasted buns from getting soggy.

A lot was going on in terms of flavour, with bursts of sweet, sour and savoury coming in the forms of red onion rings, pickles and melted American cheese, and a mystery homemade sauce that tied everything together. The patties, both beef and chicken, were succulent and well-seasoned. Overall, a winning burger in our books!

Power Burger Central Restaurant Review: Drink, Milkshakes

Sides And Shakes

When everything had arrived at our table, we questioned our decision to add on Milkshakes to our order, but they were lighter than your standard diner milkshake and so didn’t fill us up too quickly. The sprinkles on top were a fun touch, but anyone with a nut allergy should be warned that there are almonds blended into the shake (which isn’t mentioned on the menu).

We also didn’t regret ordering the Sweet Potato Fries and Onion Rings. They came piping hot and it was nice to have something crispy to munch on between burger bites.

Power Burger Central Restaurant Review: Location, Aberdeen Street

The Perfect Pick-Me-Up

While most meals at a burger joint will leave you feeling like you’ve committed a cardinal sin or hit you with the feeling of instant regret when that wave of lethargy washes over you, we left quite energised. This was surprising considering the amount we consumed, but nothing felt greasy or heavy.

If you work in the area, we think the combo meal is a great lunch break option for when you’re starving but don’t want to be in a food coma for the rest of the day. There’s another branch in Sham Shui Po and a takeaway shop in Sai Ying Pun.

District: Central
Cuisine: Elevated American-style burgers
How much: $88 to $138 for burgers (additional $38 for a side and drink combo)
Must order: The Ultimate Smash with a side of Onion Rings
The best for: Casual lunches and quick dinners

Power Burger is open from 12pm to 9pm on Sunday to Thursday and 12pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

A Team Sassy favourite, NOSH is our go-to for easy healthy meals on the go — now, the brand is offering nutritious snack swaps to help you cut sugar cravings and keep you full!

What do we want? Healthy meals! When do we want it? At our doorstep first thing in the morning! Team Sassy has tried and tested NOSH’s meal plans, which are all dietitian-approved and made to suit different preferences, nutrition goals and dietary requirements, without skimping on taste or indulgence.

An obstacle to healthier eating is often snacking. How often do you finish a day of nutritious, relatively well-balanced meals only to reach out for a too-sweet bag of sugary treats? We’ve been there. But thanks to NOSH Direct, you can have your snack and eat it too, be it a Champagne-flavoured chocolate bar, fizzy cola gummies or Peking duck-flavoured chips

Meal Plans Backed By An Expert Dietitian

Heading to a nutritionist in Hong Kong isn’t in the cards for everyone, especially given its hefty price tag. NOSH does the work for you, providing meal plans backed by expert dietician Sylvia Lam who has more than 20 years of dietetic experience in Hong Kong, focusing on helping people to eat for wellness and weight management.

“People tend to pre-packaged processed foods due to convenience but they’re low in nutrients and contain unnecessary fat. NOSH’s meals remain tasty and nutritious as we use wholefoods – ingredients that have been processed or refined as little as possible and are free from additives or other artificial substances” – Slyvia

The fuss-free meal plans can be customised to suit everyone from vegetarians to flexitarians, those on a keto diet and more, as well as being specifically dedicated to our favourite foods (we love our pasta!)

NOSH Direct

Why Choose NOSH?

With over two million healthy meal plans delivered since launching, NOSH is clearly a crowd favourite! What sets it apart from the rest? “We use all kinds of fresh ingredients, including whole grains, high-quality protein, a wide range of colourful vegetables, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices when creating their meals. Our meals can help achieve individualised goals and if you want some insight on which meal suits you best, simply raise your questions and concerns to me,” Slyvia.

Plus, eating healthy is also tied to better habits for the planet — all of NOSH’s packaging are eco-friendly and biodegradable (decomposing in 51 days in a landfill, to be precise!)

NOSH Direct

Enter NOSH Direct — Healthy And Guilt-Free Snack Swaps

The NOSH family is growing and now provides exclusive and curated health and wellness products sourced directly from the UK, Europe and the US. Focusing on helping you make within-reach sensible swaps instead of asking you to cut out your favourite foods completely, you’ll be able to shop everything from breakfast food to sweet treats, dairy-free milk, chips, health supplements and more.

You can also easily filter through your needs, whether they’re keto-friendly, vegan, organic or gluten-free – simply add all to cart and have it delivered right to your doorstep.

So What Exactly Are The Healthy Swaps?

If you have a sugar craving after a meal — you’re not alone! Swap your usual supermarket bar chocolate for Love Cocoa’s sugar-free bites (where a tree is planted for every purchase of a bar!) or Ask Mummy & Daddy’s vegan and naturally-flavoured gummies.

NOSH Direct

Our office usually has a bag of chips or two (to share!). We’d swap a supermarket-processed brand for SHORE’s high-fibre chips or Eva Bold’s keto-friendly protein bars (just what you need in the middle of the day).

NOSH Direct is constantly adding new health-conscious brands to its platform so keep your eyes peeled for more!

Plus, An Exclusive Sassy Perk!

Already adding NOSH Direct’s groceries to cart or plotting out which NOSH meal plan to go for? Make sure to use our exclusive code for a generous discount!
